Transport for NSW provides subsidies to assist school students.
The Assisted School Travel Program (ASTP) provides specialised door-to-door transport assistance for eligible students between their permanent residence and school at no cost to families where parents and carers are unable to provide or arrange transport for their child either fully or in part.
All applications for access to assisted school travel services are assessed in accordance with the program's eligibility criteria based on the individual travel support needs of students. To find out more, and to access an application form, please follow this link Assisted School Travel.
The School Drive Subsidy is available to NSW residents in areas where there is no public transport, to drive an eligible student all or part of the way to school. The subsidy is only intended to partly offset the cost of using a private vehicle to drive the eligible student and is not intended to cover all costs. Transport for NSW administers the School Drive Subsidy scheme.
The subsidy is for driving school students to school or to the nearest transport pick up point, by car, motorcycle or boat.
The School Drive Subsidy scheme replaces the previous Private Vehicle Conveyance (PVC) Subsidy scheme which is being phased out from 20 December 2016. For more information please visit the School Drive Subsidy website School Drive Subsidy
The School Student Transport Scheme provides eligible students with free or subsidised travel on public transport between home and school.
