Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
Student Wellbeing
Student wellbeing
Like all NSW public schools, we provide safe learning and teaching environments to encourage healthy, happy, successful and productive students.
The department is committed to creating quality learning opportunities for children and young people. These opportunities support wellbeing through positive and respectful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging to the school and community.
The Wellbeing Framework for Schools helps schools support the cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of students and allow them to connect, succeed and thrive throughout their education.
Your child's wellbeing
During enrolment we will work closely with you to identify any special health and well-being issues that your child may have.
Your child will be supported to develop the skills they need to manage meal times. Eating times are an important time to socialise. Our classrooms are ideally appointed to prepare and store food that is required to address specific needs for students. We have trained staff who support tube feeding, and other individualised dietary requirements. Meal times are always supervised at Clarke Road.
A Clarke Road Health Care Plan will ensure we are able to respond to and support your child with any health care issues. We may ask for additional advice and documentation from your child’s team of health care professionals to ensure appropriate plans are in place. In complex health care management we work collaboratively with allied health care teams such as dieticians, speech pathologists, psychologists, paediatricians, occupational therapists or case managers.
When your child is sick or health care issues arise, we will contact you immediately. Sharing responsibility for health care and well-being is essential to an effective relationship that supports your child.
Missing school means your child misses out on vital information and maintaining learning routines. Attendance is recorded each day. As a parent or caregiver you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day unless your child:
- has an unavoidable medical or dental appointment (preferably these should be made after school or during holidays)
- is required to attend a recognised religious holiday
- is required to attend an exceptional or urgent family circumstance (such as attending a funeral)
- is sick, or has an infectious illness.
If your child has to be absent from school for any reason, including arriving late or leaving early, please contact the administration assistant at our school office, or explain the reason by phone, email, or written note as soon as possible, or within seven days.
Our staff are trained in the administration of medication. Parents and Carers are responsible for providing up to date information and schedules for medication and administration of medication. Once provided, medication will be safely stored at school. All medications need to be handed directly to the school office or to your Assisted School Travel driver.
We have students who may require specialised equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, voice output devices, articulated foot orthotics, FM hearing equipment, hearing aids, glasses etc. We encourage parents to insure and to maintain all equipment to ensure your child is comfortable and happy and ready to learn.
Our staff are trained in all mandatory Department of Education student well-being requirements.
Like all NSW public schools, we promote the healthy development of students through:
- school programs and practices that protect and promote health and safety
- supporting individual students who need help with health issues
- providing first aid and temporary care of students who become unwell or who have an accident at school.
